A kitchen starts with a confirmed plan
Before anyone orders, make sure the layout, measurements and fitting scope are understood. The plan needs to account for how you cook, store, move through the room and connect to adjoining spaces.
Use this checklist as a conversation tool. It is not a DIY installation manual and it cannot replace the instructions for a chosen product or the work of a qualified specialist.
Before you place an order
- Confirm the final room measurements, openings, levels and access route.
- Check the cabinet plan against appliances, worktops, sinks, taps, extraction and storage.
- Write down who supplies each item and who checks dimensions, compatibility and missing parts.
- Agree how delivery dates, storage, packaging and damaged or incomplete goods will be handled.
- Identify preparation work and the trades needed for plumbing, electrics, gas or other services.
Confirm responsibility
A clear list prevents the fitting team and the homeowner assuming that the other person ordered a part or checked a measurement.
Plan the room around use
Storage, preparation space, appliance positions and access matter more than choosing a finish in isolation.

Include waste kits, trims, splashbacks, lighting parts and the small components that can hold up a final detail if they are missing.
Make access and preparation part of the plan
Agree where deliveries can arrive, where materials can be stored and how the team will move through the property. Protect the route and tell the installer about pets, children, parking limits or adjoining rooms that must remain usable.
Preparation may include walls, floors, plumbing, electrical positions, ventilation, lighting or work to connect the kitchen with the wider home. Finish with a calm handover
Do not treat the first working day as the only milestone. Keep the confirmed plan, delivery notes, product instructions and any agreed changes together. At handover, walk the room with the fitting team, check the visible finish and operation, and list any remaining details clearly.
There is no useful universal promise about how long a kitchen installation will take: the room, products, preparation, deliveries and connected trades all affect the sequence. A clear scope is more valuable than an invented duration or price.
